Welcome to the Mancroft Advice Project

Mission statement

It is our vision that all young people will know what it is to be valued, and that they will have the support and information they need to make a successful transition to adulthood.

Since we first opened our doors on 4th November 1991 we have worked to fulfil this mission and to meet the needs of the young people who come to us. We greatly appreciate all those who, since then, have helped us to help them.

A Short History of MAP

Young people have been coming to the Mancroft Advice Project since we opened our doors for the first time in 1991. They come for a variety of reasons. Some meet friends here, some use the internet. In the rain or cold, some come for shelter and a hot drink - they may have nowhere else to go. Some need information - about benefits, about finding somewhere to live, about finding a job. Some young people come for counselling, perhaps one session, perhaps many. We provide the support we can, and it's all free.

The Mancroft Advice Project is better known as MAP. It's an appropriate abbreviation. We don't tell anyone where they should be going in their lives, or how far or fast they should travel. What we can do is provide the information to help. Help identify where they are now, where they might go, routes they might take. But more than that, we offer advice and support where it's wanted. Our workers and counsellors may keep young people company en route for several years through some bumpy terrain. Paths may diverge for a time, some may disappear down dead ends. But for over 12 years MAP has been a consistent presence in Norwich, easily found again when needed.
