I am the Director here at MAP. You'll see me around and about but
more often than not I'm either shut away at my desk or allowed out
for meetings - usually about getting money to keep MAP going. My
musical tastes are ageing hippy - I was a child of the 60's after
all. Previous jobs include shelf-packing in a supermarket, being a
chambermaid in a hotel, childminding, journalism and business
management. I now also teach counselling skills at UEA. I've two
grown daughters, three terriers, and a partner who used to be the
leader of the Daleks in Dr Who!

Hi, my posh title is Directors Office Administrator. I share various
administrative duties with my colleague Nadia.
I am mostly involved in making sure that the money side of things at MAP
are in order. I also assist the director in any issues that need dealing
with. As an administrator, my role can be vary varied, from booking
counselling appointments to calling in a plumber, to going to lots of
meetings!

Nadia
I am the Service Delivery Administrator, sharing administration
duties with Justina. I am usually upstairs
ordering supplies, & leaflets, answering the telephone, trying to
make sure the computers work and generally keeping the project running
smoothly - which means I do most of the shopping and a lot of the
tidying too!

I manage the counselling team; supporting the counsellors as
they work with young people to offer an ethical and effective
service. Most young people approach MAP themselves to ask for an
appointment, they come in for an initial meeting to find out about
counselling and how things work here. I meet many of them for this
first contact and place their names on MAP's waiting list if that is
what they wish after hearing more about us. Sometimes an urgent
situation means that a young person books in straight away for a
crisis session with a counsellor. Here they can begin to talk about
what is affecting them.
One of my tasks is to produce statistics for the various
organisations which give funding to provide counselling services,
and so I keep an overview of the service and the information
collected, which is kept under terms of strict confidentiality.
I enjoy working with all the people at MAP. At home I have been
adopted by a number of cats, and I like their company too.

Sadly, Halima Nicholls, Co-ordinator of the Information and Advice
team died on Friday 11th March 2005. We were fortunate to know her
and work alongside her. She is very much missed.

I have been a youth worker with Norfolk Youth and Community Service
for 19 years (!) and a counsellor for 8 years. I am a counsellor at
MAP and co-ordinator of Off Centre, which is the county-wide
counselling service and part of Norfolk Youth and Community Service.
I love working with young people and am always encouraged by their
strong and honest way of dealing with the world and issues specific
to them. I also love dogs and travelling, and didn't do my 'gap
year' until I was 40!

Advice worker and counsellor
If you know your rights and options then you are in a better
position to take more control of your life, live to the full and
help your friends out. But knowing your rights and options isn't
always enough. Having the help of someone who listens carefully,
believes in you, and is on your side, is also important. I've worked
here for six years because MAP stands by these beliefs.

I'm appointed to lead on the Young Fathers' Project, part of a
nationwide project to support and encourage young fathers as
parents. My work includes offering practical advice and information,
skills development, and support for issues relating to being young
men as well as young fathers. I'm a young (well - youngish) father
of two, with youth work, education and community development
experience. I also recently qualified as a dramatherapist.

Sylvia
Hello, I've been working at MAP both as a volunteer and paid
employee for a number of years. During that time I have also studied
for an Open University degree in psychology, and undertaken other
volunteer work at places like Ferry Cross and the Vauxhall Centre.
I'm usually at MAP at the beginning of the week. My main
responsibility is for pregnancy testing. This doesn't always just
involve a simple yes or no, and can involve looking at a young
persons options. Another role I have at MAP is being available for
support, information and advice on a general basis.
